Winter League Table:

Updated 12.8.09

OUFC is fielding an 8v8 team for the Winter League. Updates to the site to follow as soon as I find time to do that.

Updated 11.15.09

Great win for Oakland United with a lot of people getting on the score sheet. Was a 6-1 victory over a resilient Bushrod FC team that really played well and was unlucky in many cases. Nice playoff victory for Oakland United and a nice penultimate match to the inaugural season for the team.

Playoff schedule is up, OUFC face Bushrod FC at 7pm on Gilman South field this Sunday. Come out and support us!

Updated 11.9.09

Regular season is over for OUFC, and it has a been a long one. After 10 games, OUFC finished 6th in the table (un-official) and are gearing up for the start of the playoffs. The team has had to battle through injuries all year but have all an all played really well. As the new kids on the block and in a new league, there was a steep learning curve, but the team stuck with what they knew and were always in the hunt for a W each and every Sunday. Now the next two Sundays means that the elusive "W" is even more important. So when we get our playoff schedule, please come out and support us!

Hard fought match yesterday by OUFC and Red Heat. A 1-1 draw seemed like a fair result, but OUFC was very heroic in playing the whole game 1 person down and nearly came away with the victory. Here's hoping that the team gets fit for next week and some more players are available. This league is a tough one.

Updated 9.27.09

Result: OUFC put away the Marauders 3-1 in a testy match that resulted in 2 Red Cards, one for each team. Kim, Shelby and Brendan all scored while the Marauders had relentless attack through out the 2nd half of the match. More to come later.

Updated 9.25.09

Game Update: This Sunday, Marauders host Oakland United at Gabe East field at 7pm. Come and support OUFC as they try to claw their way back up to the top of the table. After last week's loss, OUFC have dropped down to 5th, and Marauders sit one position above them. It will probably be cold, so bundle up and bring chairs so you don't get wet on the grass! Cheers.

Game Result: OUFC 1 - Tigres 3. Tough lost for Oakland United. It was a hot game at 1pm and with no subs, it meant a lot of running in some intense hit. Even with the odds against OUFC, they managed to get on the score board first with some great play between the 3 forward players in Kim, Shelby and Mike, with the last netting in the goal. The celebrations were short lived though, as Tigres, a team that have been playing for a long time and proved it with their strong quick passing, came right back with an outrageous long shot that not even the man of the match, Adam, could stop. The game continued on at 1-1 until half time, and the heat was really starting to get to OUFC. Tigres had plenty of subs and that really allowed them to take the game into their own hands, it was great defense and goal keeping of Adam that kept OUFC into the half.

The start of the 2nd half should have resulted in a 2nd goal for OUFC, as the play started to build up again and everyone was sure that Mike would have netted the 2nd when a perfect cross was delivered in from the CM, Dustin. Mike had time and space to get to the ball and head into the goal, only to come up short and send it just over the cross bar. As the game started to drag on, Tigres again took over and the back breaking goal came from a strong build up. Tigres netted a 3rd near the end of the game off a controversial call, but by then the game seemed to be in the bag. It didn't stop OUFC from trying to push forward, and maybe on a different day (or night more likely), the desire of the players would have meant a couple more goals.

As it it, it was heroic playing by all who were there, and there is still a chance for redemption, as OUFC could face Tigres in the end of the season playoffs.

Thanks to all those who came out and supported.

With only 9 active players, Oakland United was able to win a dramatic match up with Bushrod Park FC, 1-4. This win puts Oakland United top of Division II. Goals by Kim (2), Brendan, and Dustin meant that even without 3 of 4 forwards, Oakland United were able to score goals with ease.

Schedule for 9/13 is up. We'll be the visiting team against Bushrod Park FC. The game is at 3PM and Gabe West field. More information in the Fixtures and Results page.

Updated 9.3.09

Working on a new logo for the team, Oakland United FC. Also we have to take a new team picture, because we had too many "devil" eyes. More to come later.

Updated 8.31.09

Oakland United are credited with their first win of the season. It was a forfeit win because the other team did not show up. Right now we sit 4th in the table. We had a good scrimmage though, and I'm very excited about the prospects for this season. We look sharp and people's new roles seem to be gelling well. More later. Check the Results page for more info.

Cheers,

Mike

The schedule is not up just yet, but we did get the time and place for the first game of the season. Check the Fixtures page for more info, but here's the quick rundown:

7PM Gilman South: Oakland United VS East Bay Cosmos

Come out and support the team! Just a reminder, water is the only thing permitted on these fields because they are turf. No soda, energy drinks, alcohol, hot chocolate, gum, nuts, food, etc. Just plain water.

The team is completely registered for the new league. We'll be competing with 9 or 11 other teams in the 2nd Division of the Berkeley League and judging from the other managers it should be a pretty fun and competitive season. Our hopes is to get into the finals of the promotion play offs at the beginning of November, but for right now I'm just super excited that our team will be playing on some nice fields in a well organized league!

But then again, I tend to get over excited about everything related to soccer, case in point:

In all honesty I'm really excited about the new season. Our team lost a few a faces, but the new players coming in seem super excited about soccer and seem attuned with our mentality about having fun, enjoying the game and being supportive of one another. This philosophy really allowed our team last season to gel together and put in some great performances. We just now need to build upon that and realize that we have a lot of great talent and a willingness to get better.

We're also always ready for a good laugh!

In any case more to come later, but the inaugural Oakland United season is just around the corner! Come out and support us!

Updated 8.12.09

This Sunday, 8/16 is Oakland United's first official team meeting and party. It'll be held at Megan's house in Berkeley from 12noon till 5ish. Come out and bring something to grill as well as some tasty sides and some other refreshments. We'll be hopefully meeting the new players and talking about the upcoming season! Also it'll be a good time to drop off forms and fees if you have not done so.

Also, Sunday, 8/23 at 5pm at the Pyramid Brew Pub, in Berkeley, is a league wide social. Everyone associated with the league is invite, but just remember it is BYOB (Buy Your Own Beers). This is also when the league schedule is released! I won't be in town for that, but everyone should go out none-the-less and scope out the competition.

Cheers,

Michael

After several successful seasons in the OSSSL, Real Oakland FC is moving to the Co-Ed Berkeley League for the Fall '09 season. With this change in scenery comes many other changes, first right off the bat the new name for team will be Oakland United. (It seems there already was an Oakland FC in our new league). Along with our new name, we have many new faces and new managers, but what remains the same is the spirit and enthusiasm we all share for soccer.

The new season starts August 30th and we are still looking for additional players, specifically one over the age of 40 and one over the age 50. If you are interested in joining our rag-tag bunch of soccer players please email Michael Lappin for information about the team, fees and schedule. We are all about having a good time and hanging out and though experience and abilities are a plus, all that we really require to join the team is a good attitude, a willingness to learn and the love for playing soccer!

Oakland United is also looking for some more supporters to come cheer us during our Sunday soccer matches, all games will be held at either Gabe Catalfo Fields or the brilliant Tom Bates Turf Fields and are easily accessible to all areas of the Bay Area! So come out and join us as we embark on a new season in a new league!

Check back in the future for updates about the team, schedule information and pictures of the team in action!
